I've always like riding... and when the wife offered to buy me a new bike after 30 years of not riding, I took her up on it.
She wanted something big - Harley Ultra Glide big. But I wanted something lighter, smaller. Too many years and no seat time for a huge bike, I thought.
When we first bought the Harley Low Rider on July 4, 2008, little did we know how much it would impact our lives. I joined a Meetup riding group, then another ... and another. Since then, my wife has been the bystander while I put mile after mile on the Hog. She has gotten tired of my returning home after being gone all day, with tails of where I'd been and what I'd seen.
She began talking of getting another bike about a year ago...always the Ultra.
When I saw she was serious - and I felt comfortable handling the bigger bike, we went shopping. Found a few; liked several, negotiated on one, bought none.
Until now.
When the black Ultra Limited - dripping with Screaming Eagle Stage 1 and tons of silly bling - appeared on one of the dealer's floor, she bought it.
Six days later, it appeared in our drive, fresh from having a few mods completed. Bright … Shiny …. Object.
Three hours later, with the temperature hovering at 40 degrees, I took my first ride on her.
There's a world of difference between the Dyna and the Ultra. Like a Caddy to my "Z". But good difference. My first 30 miles were short, but fun. I need a little more seat time on her before asking the wife to ride along - not many, maybe another 100 or so. That means I could ask her to go tomorrow.
I think she's going to like it.
