Vintage Iron. . .
I have often felt I was missing something as I passed vintage car after vintage car going the opposite way as I made my way to O'Hare airport every week. "Oh, they're probably heading to some local cruise..." was the response when I remembered to ask the locals. "There are a plenty of those during the summer..."
Last night, I finally made time to see for myself. The family headed up to Crystal Lake for the weekly Crystal Lake's Classic Cars Night .
In Baltimore there are a few weekend 'cruise-in's' that take place in a parking lot of a fast food lot or a shopping mall. They're fun and attract quite a few cars and spectators, which is what I expected in Crystal Lake as well. Boy, was I surprised. When the event title says "Crystal Lake's Classic Cars Night" it means exactly that - the entire center of town is host to the show. Main street is closed to thru traffic and cars line the sides - and the surrounding blocks. There were Porsche 356 Clubs and Chevy's, Mustangs and Mopars, Corvettes and Corvairs. Motorcycles and ... Internationals.

And, of course, the '55 Bel Air. There were several of the old girls there - and each one a thing of beauty. The '56 gasser was a treat too.
If you're in the area, you might want to check out one of the cruise nights for yourself.
Enjoy Life.
